Home improvement financing is available in Merced, California from the city housing division. They are encouraging eligible residents to apply for over $300,000 in loans for home improvement through the CALHOME program.

The city is seeing a renewed demand for these home improvement loans as borrowers are able to use the money for a wide range of repairs including door, window, roof, interior and exterior repairs. Due to the state of the economy, many people have been putting off home repairs. The loans allow them to defer payments on repairs that they need to make today. They are being made available to first time home buyers and also to those who want to rehabilitate their houses. The city housing division got an initial $600,000 grant in 2006 for home loans to low income household, and about half that amount is left to be given out in loans that can total $40,000 max.
